座面の形状が印象的なこの3 本脚のスツールの歴史は15 世紀に遡り、何世紀にもわたってほとんどその形が変わっていません。1930 年代の短い期間、アンデルセンの生誕地の近くで製造されましたが、その後1970 年代初頭にワーナー社の現在のオーナーである、Werner ( ワーナー) 氏がハンドメイドによる製作をスタートさせ、今日に至っています。最初は、平らな座面の乳搾り用のスツールとして作られ、後年、靴職人が座り心地をよくする為にお尻の形状に合わせて座面を削ったことがきっかけで現在の形になりました。これが「シューメーカーチェア」という呼び名の由来です。ワーナー社は、この伝統的なスツールに更なる改良を重ね、人間工学に基づいた座面形状と安定性の高い角度の脚部、そして元のスツールにはなかった「貫」を取り入れました。同社では、デザイン・機能ともに優れた椅子を現在も作り続けています。
